The Great Wall

The Great Wall of China was first built in about 221 b.c, in the Qin dynasty. This Wall was first built by Shihuangd, to unite China, and protect them from raids from nomadic people. The Wall was finally finished by Shihuangid in 204 b.c and was 1900 kilometers long or else known as 1200 miles long.  In succeeding centuries, during especially the period of the Ming dynasty (ad 1368 - 1644) the Wall was extended and cracks were repaired.

The Wall was built of earth and stone , with brick in the east side.  When the Wall was finally finished it measurements were 15 to 30 feet thick at the base, the height averages about 25 feet tall of crenellated parapets.  The watchtowers on the Wall are 40 feet tall and are placed in intervals of about 200 yard distances.  With the great length of the Great Wall it is the longest human made structure in the whole entire world. Now in 1997 if you go to see the magnificent Great Wall  it will still be very long but after the years some of the wall has become destroyed.
