Chinese Architecture

Architecture in China was important and kept many Ming traditions alive. The buildings were mostly large, colorful, and had a rectangular shape. Even the palaces, like the buildings, had expansive interiors and many fine details. Palaces were the main source to show the hallmark of Quing construction. Most of the buildings were a reddish color, usually had bright gold roofs and marble staircases inside.

Color played an important part in Chinese architecture.  Even the temples had colorfully painted wood figures hanging on the walls. Around 1949, the People's Republic of China introduced another great change in the art and culture of China. When a man by the name of Mao Zedong took control, painting and decorative arts began to reflect politics. The styles of paintings were usually created in schools that had to do with themes. Artists made art, weaving, basketry, jewlery, and wood block printing.
